As mentioned previously, metrics are the lifeblood of your web presence. There are a number of blog specific metrics tools available. If you are running a blog only, you'll want to experiment with at least one blog specific stat program.
A blog is a particular type of a website, with specific elements associated with it. Some of those include comments, the fact that each post typically gets its own page, etc. Having a stats package that takes these things into account will paint a better picture for what's occurring on your blog.
BlogTracker is one of the newest blog stat tools on the market. It's provided free through IceRocket - which is a blog search engine.
It's definitely not as comprehensive as some of the other tools (e.g., it doesn't give you information on popular posts). But one of the interesting aspects is that it will give you a rank, based on your stats versus the other bloggers using the tool.
If you haven't used any web stats programs to this point, especially not one for blogs, give BlogTracker a try. It should provide a gentle introduction for you.

Hi, I did sign up with blog tracker's free counter and I really love it. I've got it on my blogger/blogspot blog at hoeno.blogspot.com and I have no idea how good or bad my ranking is, because I don't know how many people there are or how many hits the top people have or any frame of reference. Is there a site for the rank listing? Other than that, it's been working great, I love all the details about the countries that the hits come from, etc. It won't work at all for my aol journals blog however. I've tried to find anything that will work properly on the aol blog to no avail. I've got one that is supposed to give me a free counter with all the details you get on blog tracker in exchange for an AD link on my site. The AD shows up clear as day but the counter doesn't and neither does any information on my account with that company [freecountersnow.com]. Also, these people never seem to answer my questions when I send them, it's very frustrating. Can you/anyone recommend a free counter site that works with an aol blog like mine- http://journals.aol.com/ninetyplus4life/Capacity ?
